"Thinking YOU can do it better is the mother of invention"

Hello, I am Richard Burman, a video cameraman who for many years has worked only with full-sized cameras. When I acquired a smaller HD camcorder I had to figure out how to handhold it securely, work with accessories, and snap it solidly onto a tripod head without a big song and dance. I didn't like most commercial camera supports as they are limited in what they do or are too bulky, so I decided to invent one.

And BTW I am seeing a definite need for a version of the mulTplate for these DSLRs that shoot video. Research is under way.

The mul-T-plate's KEY features:

  • Made of solid light-weight aluminum T-slot extrusions.
  • While the main plate securely hugs the bottom of the camera the other side provides a flat surface for the attachment of the tripod plate or unipod.
  • Ratchet handle on the left side helps tremendously with balance. It moves fore and aft and rotates to accommodate various hand positions. As a bonus you can adjust focus and iris without losing your grip.
  • A pair of side rails can be pulled out of its compact storage position, the joining brace piece pivoted and a plate rotated to hold the rig against your chest or set it on your shoulder.
  • The front and rear accessory posts have adjustable anchor pins and security straps to provide space for wireless receivers, batteries, or a video transmitter. The front post includes a threaded insert that can support a sun-gun or shotgun microphone.
  • The mulTplate can be left on permanently as it will fit in many camera cases. It also provides some protection from falls and bumps as the utility posts and handle absorb the shock (I speak from experience).
  • Other accessories may be added later such as a front block to accept matte box rods or a more substantial over-the-shoulder or against-the-chest support (for those long shoot days).
The mulTplate is having some tweaking done on it at the moment.
